Brushed or Brushless?

Brushed motors use two small copper leads to contact the spinning motor arm on the commutator. The flow of voltage from one brush to the other causes the arm to spin. Brush material and the strength of the springs holding them in place can have a dramatic effect on performance.

Brushless motors rely on magnets to spin the arm. Because the only contact with the spinning arm is at the bearing, brushless motors can achieve very high RPM and extremely long life when compared to brushed motors. Brushless motors are also lighter making them popular for any high performance application.

Below we have provided a number of links to manufacturers websites. In some cases, you will see prices listed. These are manufacturers list prices. They are generally not in Canadian funds and do not reflect AVF's everyday low prices. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
